What is Algebra?

We can solve for x by subtracting 5 from both sides:

x = 12 - 5

x = 7

Example 2: Using variables

If a rectangle has a width of 'w' and a length of 'l', its area is:

Area = w × l

If w = 5 and l = 3, then:

Area = 5 × 3 = 15
